Senate Voting 4/28

The senate voted on four student initiatives today. Two proposals passed and two were denied. Check out how your Senator voted! 

 


Sierra Allen’s Biola Symphonic Winds Tickets

Proposal Overview: Requesting $700 to provide 70 free student tickets for the annual Biola Symphonic Winds POPS spring concert. Concert tickets are $10, however in order to encourage student attendance at the event, the Biola Symphonic Winds is hoping to partner with SGA to subsidize the cost of student tickets. The POPS Concert is on May 7, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature musical pieces from Broadway, Disney movie themes, and classical pieces.

Voting: Proposal passed in full

The vote was a tie. The SGA Senior Vice President broke the tie, and the proposal passed in full.

 


Katlin Puchalski’s New Student Planners

Proposal Overview: Requesting $3,581.50 to fund 1,300 academic planners for next fall’s incoming students. A common struggle new students encounter while adjusting to the new demands of university life is time management. SOS believes that providing academic planners for new students gives them an important tool early on in their academic journey to structure their schedules and keep up to date with their tasks and assignments. These planners would be distributed to incoming students during SOS week next fall.

Tamara Gondo’s Biola Broken Educational Materials

Proposal Overview: Requesting $530 for educational materials that will be provided to students during Biola Broken workshops and information booths. The topics of these brochures will include: loneliness, rejection & abandonment, depression & suicidal ideation, relationship abuse, sexual addiction & healthy sexual relationships, anxiety & stress management. Biola Broken is a club on campus, and they are hoping that providing these resources to students will be beneficial for students who are struggling with these topics.

The Senators were unsure about the effectiveness of the proposal. Biola Broken receives funding from SPA during club funding.

 


Alisa Ohara’s PRSSA Dodger Ticket Fundraiser

Proposal Overview: Requesting $330 to purchase discounted Dodger baseball tickets, in order for PRSSA (Public Relations Student Socieity of America) to resell the tickets to students at the full price of $20 each. Biola PRSSA plans to use the $600 profit from this fundraiser for future conference and event costs.
